Where We Are Going Today: Meet Point Burger in Jeddah

  • A nice touch was serving the lettuce, tomato, sauce and pickles separately, allowing guests to assemble the burger to their liking

In search of a weekend treat, I stopped by Meet Point Burger in Jeddah’s Salama district on Al-Yamamah Street, a newly opened burger place with an American flair.

The exterior sets the tone with a vintage red Ford sports car hinting at the nostalgic, Americana-inspired experience inside. The interior continues the theme with an industrial design that evokes an old train station.

Double-height ceilings, exposed metalwork, screen and a warm blend of metal, red accents and polished wood give the space cinematic drama without compromising comfort.

The menu leans heavily into American-style comfort food, elevated with a gourmet touch. I began with the NY hot dog, presented as one of the restaurant’s signature items. The grilled sausage comes tucked into soft bread and piled high with fried onions, creamy sauce, chives and sauteed peppers.

While the textures delivered a pleasant mix of crunch and juiciness, the flavors fell short of the original New York-style hot dog I had anticipated. The toppings overwhelmed the sausage, and the portion felt noticeably small, especially when measured against typical American servings.

My second order, the Meet Point burger, proved more satisfying. The patty was well-smoked, juicy and the meat was cooked to a tender finish. The only drawback was its size; diners with a big appetite may need a double order.

A nice touch was serving the lettuce, tomato, sauce and pickles separately, allowing guests to assemble the burger to their liking. I would have preferred a tangier pickle, as the milder version offered less contrast to the rich meat.

The accompanying fries, however, were good, and the table setup, with ample sauces and wet wipes, was appreciated.

A glass-bottled Coca-Cola accompanied the meal, served with a reusable branded cup in a striking red design, which guests are free to take home.

For a total of SR98 ($26), the pricing felt fair for the experience.

Overall, Meet Point Burger offers enjoyable flavors, a standout ambiance and friendly, efficient service. I would recommend the burger — just order two if you are hungry.

Where We Are Going Today: ‘The Roof’ at the Jeddah Edition Hotel

  • I made my way to the mocktail bar, where the menu featured several options

With the first hint of winter settling over Jeddah, rooftop spaces across the city are gradually coming back to life after the long, humid summer.

Among them is The Roof at the Jeddah Edition Hotel, where I was recently invited to experience the atmosphere, food offerings, and evening setting.

The moment I stepped onto the rooftop, the scene carried a familiar coastal warmth, comfortable and understated yet framed by the luxury the hotel is known for. On one side, the Formula One circuit curves in view, while the city skyline and the Jeddah Yacht Club stretch outward, catching a beautiful sunset that softened the horizon and reminded me of why the city’s rooftops feel most alive at this time of year.

I made my way to the mocktail bar, where the menu featured several options. I chose the passionfruit blend — cold, tangy, and lightly sweet. The presentation was good, with a dried orange garnish and a small paper straw.

The soundtrack of the evening was shaped by the hotel’s resident DJ, who alternated between Arabic and Western melodies with live percussion, pairing well with the cool breeze drifting across the terrace.

I sampled mini burgers, tacos, and a mushroom-and-onion pasta from the live station. Later, after meeting a friend, we shared dessert, churros paired with a latte, while sitting near the pool. The water was inviting, though the evening wasn’t quite cool enough for a swim.

The Roof has SR150 ($40) minimum spend per person starting from 6:00 p.m.
