RIYADH: Saudi taekwondo star Dunya Abutaleb made history on Sunday night by winning her first gold medal at the Islamic Solidarity Games, triumphing in the under-51kg category in Riyadh.

Abutaleb clinched the title with a 2-0 victory over Turkiye’s Elif Akgul in the final, having earlier secured her place in the showdown with another 2-0 win against Uzbekistan’s Lilo Kaznova.

Her achievement marked a major milestone, as she becomes the first Saudi woman to win gold in any women’s event across all sports in the history of the Islamic Solidarity Games.
