KARACHI, 25 December 2004 — Riyadh-based Darussalam, a multilingual international Islamic publishing house, has opened a new branch in Karachi. Federal Minister for Islamic Affairs Dr. Amir Liaquat, Sindh Home Minister Rauf Siddiqui, Karachi Mayor Naimatullah Khan, Sen. Sajid Meer and Darussalam Director Abdul-Malik Mujahid were among those present at the opening of the branch last week.
“Every Muslim should study Islamic books,” said Dr. Liaquat.
Rauf Siddiqui said Islamic teachings provided solution to all problems, adding it was important to study Islam in its proper perspective. “Literature published by Darussalam is based on authentic Islamic teachings and free from sectarian views,” he said.
Naimatullah Khan said the Muslims of the subcontinent struggled to create a country where they could practice Islam and live in peace and security. He said institutions like Darussalam were actually helping to promote the cause of Pakistan.
Mujahid said his organization would set up a radio station to propagate Islam. Darussalam has established an audio studio in Egypt where more than 500 audio cassettes and CDs have been produced to propagate Islam and Islamic values. Darussalam has also produced educational toys through which children learn the basic teachings of Islam.
The “Baba Salam” series, especially, has gained unprecedented acceptance, he said. Darussalam has 29 branches in different countries. Its books are printed in China, Lebanon and Italy, aside from the Kingdom and Pakistan.
