UAE issues new decree to protect domestic workers’ rights

DUBAI: The UAE has issued a federal decree concerning domestic workers in order to strengthen relationships between employers and employees, reported state news agency WAM on Tuesday.

The law aims to accelerate the process of resolving disputes between the parties involved and will transfer the jurisdiction of such cases from the Court of Appeal to the Court of First Instance.

It states that if a dispute arises between the employer, domestic worker, and recruitment company and cannot be resolved between them, then the issue must be referred to the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratisation.

Any party to the dispute may file a lawsuit with the Court of First Instance to contest the ministry’s decision. The ruling of the Court of First Instance in this case is final, and filing a lawsuit will suspend the enforcement of the ministry’s decision.

Turkiye bus accident kills eight, injures 26: governor

ISTANBUL: A passenger bus rolled off a road in southern Turkey’s Antalya province on Sunday, killing eight people, a senior official said.
Images on state broadcaster TRT showed the vehicle lying on its side on an embankment on a highway slip road in Dosemealti, a district to the northwest of Antalya city center.
Provincial Gov. Hulusi Sahin said 26 people were injured, some of them critically. The DHA news agency reported that some passengers were thrown from the bus, which had traveled overnight from Tekirdag in Turkey’s northwest.
Antalya, a popular tourist destination on the Mediterranean, has been hit by heavy rain in recent days. “The ground was wet and there was also fog in the area. It’s not a place to speed, but it seems the bus was speeding,” Sahin told TRT.
