JEDDAH, 30 June 2004 — The “Search for Mediacom Videoke King and Queen,” scheduled this weekend at the Philippine Consulate has been moved.
Rudy Carillo, chairman of the Overseas Filipino Workers Cooperative Council (OFWCC), the co-organizer of the event, they were prompted to set a new schedule in line with new guidelines set by the host government.
According to the Philippine Consulate, any cultural activity to be held at the mission should have “prior permission” from the governor’s office of Jeddah.
Carillo said a permit is now being secured and the event had been tentatively scheduled on July 23.
Remigio “Emy” de Guzman, general manager of Sky Freight Forwarders, the main sponsor of the event.
He added: “We are saddened by this turn of events. But we have to take this on a positive note.”
He added: “I hope the quarterfinalists, their fans, and the public understand the situation.
By moving the grand finals a few weeks, the quarterfinalists will have more time to practice their songs.
