Another 61 Jordanians allowed to leave Gaza through Rafah border crossing

  • Since the war began in October, 1,247 Jordanian citizens have registered that they are in Gaza, 764 of whom have been evacuated from the territory so far

AMMAN: Egyptian authorities have authorized an additional 61 Jordanian citizens to leave Gaza through the Rafah border crossing, officials in Jordan said on Thursday.

Since October, 1,247 Jordanian citizens have registered with authorities that they are in Gaza, and 764 of them have been evacuated from the territory so far.

Sufyan Qudah, a spokesperson for Jordan’s Foreign Ministry, said staff from the country’s embassy in Egypt are stationed at the border crossing to monitor the evacuation process and assist Jordanians by providing essential support, including medical aid, and coordinating travel arrangements for nationals granted permission to leave.

Meanwhile, Jordan’s armed forces completed seven airdrops of humanitarian aid to the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday, the Jordan News Agency reported. The operations were carried out by the Royal Jordanian Air Force in cooperation with Egypt, the US, Germany and Singapore, which provided the use of planes.

Sources said the airdrops reflected Jordan’s aim of broadening the scope of international collaborations as part of the efforts to deliver greater amounts of critical aid to the people of Gaza. Since the start of the war in October, the country has carried out 53 airdrops of its own, and taken part in 78 joint airdrop operations with other countries.

US envoy Witkoff meets Netanyahu in Jerusalem: Israeli official

  • Witkoff’s talks with Netanyahu on Tuesday marked his second encounter with the Israeli prime minister in less than a fortnight

JERUSALEM: US envoy Steve Witkoff held talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday, an Israeli official said, during a visit that followed the reopening of Gaza’s Rafah crossing with Egypt.
The official told AFP that the meeting was taking place in Jerusalem, but declined to provide details on the agenda.
It came as the United States was expected to hold talks with Israel’s arch-foe Iran later this week.
An Arab official, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP that the meeting was likely to take place in Turkiye on Friday, following diplomatic interventions by Ankara, as well as Egypt, Oman and Qatar.
Witkoff’s talks with Netanyahu on Tuesday marked his second encounter with the Israeli prime minister in less than a fortnight. His previous visit took place days before the Rafah crossing was reopened.
Israeli media reported at the time that Witkoff and fellow US envoy Jared Kushner had pressed for the reopening of the crossing.
