Pakistan Cricket Board fines pacer Naseem Shah for kicking stumps during recent PSL match

  • Naseem Shah had kicked the stumps after Islamabad United had beaten Multan Sultans on Sunday night
  • Separately, Pakistan Cricket Board fines Multan Sultans for maintaining slow over-rate in same match

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) said on Monday it had fined right-arm fast bowler Naseem Shah 10 percent of his match fee for kicking the stumps during a Pakistan Super League (PSL) fixture on Sunday night.

Shah had been found guilty of a level 1 breach of the PSL’s Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel while his team, Islamabad United squared off against the Multan Sultans in Rawalpindi.

Home team United beat Sultans in a thrilling run-fest by three wickets to qualify for the playoffs, winning the match on the last ball of the game.

“Naseem was charged for violating Article 2.2 that deals with abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings. Naseem had kicked the stumps after the final ball of Multan Sultans’ innings,” the PCB said.

The board said since Shah had pleaded guilty to the charge and accepted the sanctions proposed by Match Referee Roshan Mahanama, there was no need for a formal hearing into the matter.

Meanwhile, in a separate incident in the same match, the Sultans were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate.

The table-toppers were ruled to be one over short of their target by Mahanama, who took into consideration time allowances before arriving at the decision.

“As such, and in accordance with Article 2.22 of the HBL PSL Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, each player was fined 10 percent of his match fee,” the PCB said.
