MANAMA, 2 April 2004 — Bahrain Monetary Agency (BMA) announced that it has issued a new medal and coin to commemorate the Formula One Bahrain Grand Prix that is scheduled to be held between the 2nd and 4th of April.

A silver medal and a special 100 fils commemorative coin have been minted to mark Bahrain’s debut on the Formula One international motor racing calendar.

The coin, which is not for circulation, bears the words ‘1st Bahrain Grand Prix 2004’, along with the logo of the Bahrain International Circuit (BIC) and ‘Kingdom of Bahrain’. The size and weight of the special coin is the same as that of an ordinary 100 fils coin. A total of 30,000 Formula One coins, in presentation packs, have been minted.

A total of 500 medals have been minted. They come in a presentation box and can purchased from BMA’s Currency Issue Directorate, at a cost of BD25 each.

“The BMA is proud to be part of the national effort to make the upcoming event a memorable one.” said Farid Jassim Zubari, Director, Currency Issue, at the BMA. This is the 24th issue of commemorative coins and medals to be made by the BMA.
