JEDDAH, 31 March 2004 — Two female students from a Jizan college were killed and 11 injured when the bus they were traveling in collided with a large truck on the coast road, Al-Madinah reported.

One student was killed on the scene while the second victim died at King Fahd hospital from internal bleeding

“According to the driver, the truck suddenly tried to cross the main highway and blocked the way of the school bus. The driver of the school bus tried to avoid the collision but the truck was going too fast,” the paper quoted Ibraheem Al-Shaqiqi, the father of one of the injured girls, as saying. Witnesses said some of the girls were thrown out of the bus by the force of the impact.

Al-Shiqaqi said the fact that the school was 160 km from the town increased the risks of traffic accidents during the journey.

“We live in a town with 120,000 people. I think with a population this large we deserve a college in our own town,” he said.

Meanwhile in Hail, a reckless driver passed through a red light and hit a bus carrying seven female students. The students suffered minor injuries and were released from hospital after treatment.
