RIYADH, 26 March 2004 — It was a moment of victory for the Eagles squad as they bagged the Championship trophy in the final game of the WEMOWA Unity Cup 1424 at the Sheraton Hotel basketball court last Friday.

The Eagles managed to outgun the hard-pressing Valiant team who badly missed the presence of their ace player Abdulgafur Ibno, as the Eagles profited from the Valiant’s errors and turn-over due to the absence of a legitimate point guard orchestrating a crucial game. Tournament MVP Mohammad “Mr. Love” Indasan was the highest pointer for the Eagles while three of his team mates contributed with some double figures to help put some pressure on the crowd favorites Ahmad Paddam’s ward, the Valiant team.

Meanwhile, Patriot team settled for the 2nd Runner-up trophy as they edges over Islamtoday.com with a final score of 79-70.

Engr. Vox Bakil’s Patriot team suffered a heartbreaker at the hands of the Eagle squad while Valiant upset Islamtoday.com in the semis “day of the underdogs”.

The historic tournament which was organized for the first time by the Western Mindanao Overseas Workers Association or WEMOWA (www.wemowa.com) was aimed at fostering unity and brotherhood among expatriates from the southwestern Philippines.

Engr. Muktar Julkipli, WEMOWA’s sport committee chairman and tournament commissioner, invites all basketball enthusiasts who are form Western Mindanao for the forth coming basketball season.
