Saudi authorities thwart attempt to smuggle hashish

JAZAN: Saudi border guards in Al-Deyer governate, Jazan region, foiled an attempt to smuggle 39 kg of hashish.

The seized narcotics were handed over to the competent authority, and preliminary legal procedures were completed, state news agency SPA reported.

Also, the general directorate of narcotics control arrested three Ethiopian nationals in Jazan for attempting to smuggle 44 kg of hashish.

The Saudi government has urged anyone with information related to suspected smuggling operations or customs violations to call the confidential hotline 1910, the international number 00 966 114208417, or email [email protected].

Tips received by the authority related to smuggling crimes and breaches of common customs law are treated with strict confidentiality. Financial rewards are offered for valid tips.

RIYADH: Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman received 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry winner Professor Omar Yaghi in Riyadh on Wednesday.
The crown prince congratulated Yaghi on receiving the prize and wished him continued success, Saudi Press Agency reported.
The professor was awarded the 2025 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, sharing it with Richard Robson of the University of Melbourne, Australia, and Susumu Kitagawa of Kyoto University, Japan.
The scientists were cited for creating “molecular constructions with large spaces through which gases and other chemicals can flow. These constructions, metal-organic frameworks, can be used to harvest water from desert air, capture carbon dioxide, store toxic gases or catalyze chemical reactions.”
Yaghi expressed his gratitude to the crown prince for the meeting and the support he has received in his work.
