JEDDAH, 7 December 2003 — A hat trick by Trawri helped Al-Hilal notch a 3-0 victory over Al-Zawra of Iraq in the Arab League Championship match at the Prince Faisal ibn Fahd Stadium in Riyadh yesterday.
Hilal scored an early goal in the sixth minute and then added the next two in the second period (51st and 62nd), all coming through Trawri’s boots.
In another match of the championship, Saudi club Al-Ahli overcame the gritty challenge of home team Al-Wehdat in Amman with a solitary goal verdict.
The margin of victory highlighted the closeness of the match with Ahli holding a slight edge throughout the game. The all-important goal came in the 84th minute with Carlos Adrian being on mark.
A defensive lapse on the part of Wehdat proved decisive. A long through ball lobbed in between the goalkeeper and a defender and both held back hoping the other would be making a move. With both of the players rooted the ball glanced off the defender on to Adrian’s path and the Ahli player made no mistake. Next Wednesday Ahli play Hilal at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal Stadium in Jeddah.
