RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s flag carrier Saudia has been acknowledged for its commitment to sustainability in the 2nd annual Sustainable Flight Challenge organized by the global aviation alliance SkyTeam.
At an award ceremony held in Atlanta, Saudia was recognized for “Most Innovative Ground Operations” and “Best Employee Engagement and Collaboration” in the management of flights across short, medium, and long-haul routes. This victory marks the airline’s second consecutive win in the challenge.
Saudia said it remains dedicated to implementing measures that boost the reduction of carbon emissions, preserving the environment, and exploring alternative fuel sources.
The airline was also nominated for the “Greatest Carbon Reduction” award in the medium-haul flights category.
Ibrahim Koshy, CEO of Saudia, said: “Saudia’s unwavering dedication to engage and execute sustainability-driven initiatives within the aviation industry is closely aligned with its new identity and vision for the future.”
This commitment aligns with Vision 2030 goals, where sustainability stands at the forefront. Saudia is set to host the event next year as part of this pledge.
The CEO added: “Hosting the next Sustainable Flight Challenge Awards reflects Saudia’s substantial contributions to this field and serves as a catalyst for pioneering innovative initiatives."
The challenge involves evaluating the airline’s performance, from ground operations to destination arrival, to identify effective, adaptable, and applicable measures for commercial and cargo flights.
Saudia has recently launched its new brand and era, integrating Saudi culture into its services and products, offering an immersive experience for its guests.
Additionally, the airline plays a national role as the Wings of Vision 2030, supporting its goals and collaborating with various ambitious projects in tourism, business, Hajj, and Umrah.
The airline is also committed to increasing and developing local content and actively participating in launching initiatives related to social responsibility.
