EAST RUTHERFORD, New Jersey, 2 November 2003 — Jason Kidd recorded his 51st career triple double to lead the New Jersey Nets to an 84-61 win over Minnesota on Friday, holding the Timberwolves to a franchise low in points.
Kidd had 21 points, 14 assists and 11 rebounds to lead the offense as the Nets dominating defense held the T-Wolves in check all night, with Minnesota managing just nine points in the fourth quarter.
Richard Jefferson added 26 points for the Nets in their home opener, but the win was tempered by the loss of power forward Kenyon Martin with an ankle injury.
Martin fell awkwardly on his ankle early in the third quarter and didn’t return. He had to be helped to the locker room although X-rays revealed no major damage.
Kevin Garnett led Minnesota with 23 points, but the Timberwolves still posted the worst offensive performance in their history. The Timberwolves scored just 10 points in the first quarter as they beat their previous lowest game total by five points. Minnesota scored just 66 points against Atlanta in 1997.
Raptors 82 Wizards 79
In Toronto, Vince Carter scored 26 points to lead the Raptors to an 82-79 win over the Washington Wizards.
Toronto recovered from their lowest-scoring first half in team history to come back for the win. Carter scored 18 of his points in the second half, while Jerome Williams added 17 points and 13 rebounds.
Bucks 93 Pacers 79
In Indianapolis, rookie T.J. Ford had 11 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists in his NBA debut as the Milwaukee Bucks beat the Indiana Pacers 93-79. Michael Redd scored 21 points for Milwaukee, while Tim Thomas scored 20 to give coach Terry Porter his first victory. Al Harrington led Indiana with 26 points.
Celtics 93 Grizzlies 91
In Memphis, Vin Baker had 24 points and eight rebounds and Mike James hit the winning basket with 1.8 seconds to play, leading the Boston Celtics past the Grizzlies 93-91.
Paul Pierce added 23 points for Boston, while James had 16 points and six assists.
Stromile Swift scored 18 points to lead the Grizzlies.
Bulls 100 Hawks 94
In Chicago, Tyson Chandler pulled down 22 rebounds and scored 13 points, leading the Bulls over the Atlanta Hawks 100-94.
Eddy Curry added 22 points for the Bulls, while Jalen Rose chipped in 15 and Kendall Gil added 12. Jason Terry scored 24 points to lead the Hawks (0-2), while Stephen Jackson added 17.
Pistons 93 Heat 81
In Miami, Chauncey Billups scored 27 points and Ben Wallace had 15 rebounds as the Detroit Pistons kept the Heat winless, with a 93-81 victory.
Richard Hamilton had 24 points for the Pistons, who dropped the Heat to 0-3 to start the season. Eddie Jones scored 20 points to lead Miami, while Udonis Haslem had 16 points and 11 rebounds.
SuperSonics 124 Clippers 105
In Saitama, Japan, Rashard Lewis scored a career-high 50 points to lead the Seattle SuperSonics to a 124-105 win over the Los Angeles Clippers to close out the two-game series in Japan. Lewis was 18-of-25 from the floor as he easily surpassed his career-high of 37 points set last season against Washington. Ronald Murray had 22 points for the Sonics, while Brent Barry added 14.
Corey Maggette scored 26 points to lead the Clippers.
Kings 100 76ers 89
In Sacramento, Peja Stojakovic scored 28 points to lead the Kings to their second win in as many games, 100-89 over the Philadelphia 76ers. Mike Bibby added 16 points for the Kings, while Brad Miller had 11 points, nine rebounds and five assists. Allen Iverson scored 27 points to lead Philadelphia, while Kenny Thomas added 19.
