A grand “pan-Saudi mushaira” was organized recently in Alkhobar by Bazm-e-Yaaraan-e-Sukhan at the Luluwa Hall in Al-Aziziah district.
A number of Urdu poets from various countries who are living in the Kingdom were invited to participate in the mushaira. They entertained the audience with their beautiful and creative poetic compositions.
The mushaira was presided over by Sohail Saqib, a prominent poet from Saudi Arabia’s Eastern Region. Dr. Nausha Asrar from Jubail was the guest of honor. Iqbal Qamar, another renowned poet from Dammam, participated in the mushaira as a special guest. Among the poets from other cities in the Kingdom who recited their poetry were Afsar Barabankawi (Jeddah); Faisal Tufail (Jeddah); Dr. Rizwan Mazhabi (Taif); Nasir Burney Beg (Yanbu); Altaf Sheharyar (Riyadh); Hakeem Aslam Qamar (Al-Ahsa); Dr. Sajjad Syed (Jubail) and Iqbal Aslam (Jubail).
The local poets who are members of Bazm-e-Yaaraan-e-Sukhan and who also recited their poetry were Asif Akhtar; Masood Jamal; Ghazala Kamrani; Ziyaur Rahman Siddiqui and Saleem Hasrat.
Another unique feature of this particular mushaira was that there were two hosts, the poets Ziyaur Rahman Siddiqui and Saleem Hasrat.
The mushaira began with a recitation from the Holy Qur’an by Qari Mohammed Shoaib followed by Mirza Atiq Baig, an active member of Bazm-e-Yaaraan-e-Sukhan, who gave a history and description of the cultural society. After that, Mirza Ateeq Baig invited Saleem Hasrat and Ziyaur Rahman Siddiqui onto the stage to host the mushaira.
The audience of Urdu poetry lovers who were in the hall opened their hearts to the poets and their poetry. The poets recited their best poetry and received ample applause from the attendees. The enjoyable mushaira continued well into the night and did not conclude until about 1 a.m.
