Saudi ministry of Islamic Affairs in volunteering push

  • Volunteers in all regions of the Kingdom are offering their services to strive to achieve the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals by reaching 1 million volunteers

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Islamic Affairs, Call and Guidance’s volunteer department provided more than 1.7 million volunteer hours during the first quarter of 2023.

Volunteers in all regions of the Kingdom are offering their services to strive to achieve the Kingdom’s Vision 2030 goals by reaching 1 million volunteers.

These numbers were revealed within official statistics issued by the National Volunteer Portal, where 4,673 volunteer opportunities were offered, in which 14,790 volunteers participated; the number of volunteer hours completed reached 1,745,132 hours, and the economic value and financial return of voluntary initiatives amounted to SR43,982,265 (a little over $11.99 million)

Offering these volunteer opportunities comes within the framework of providing all possible services to pilgrims in line with the objectives of Vision 2030, as the volunteer initiatives include preparing, cleaning, and arranging mosques, in addition to several field initiatives.

RIYADH: The King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center’s efforts to help vulnerable individuals and families continue in Yemen and Syria with the distribution of basic food necessities.

In Yemen, 2,251 families comprising 15,757 individuals from the districts of Khanfir, Al-Wadea, and Zinjibar in Abyan Governorate and Al-Dhale and Al-Shuayb districts of Al-Dhale Governorate received 2,251 food parcels as part of a life-saving project for underprivileged households.

In Syria, 2,820 individuals from 470 families affected by the earthquake in the city of Harem of Idlib Governorate received 470 food baskets and 470 hygiene kits as part of the humanitarian and relief aid provided by the Kingdom, through KSrelief.

General Directorate of Passports chief inspects Taif airport and Makkah points of entry

RIYADH: Director General of Passports Lt. Gen. Sulaiman Al-Yahya on Sunday inspected Taif International Airport and points of entrance into Makkah.

Al-Yahya assessed the work of passport officers and administrative committees responsible for Hajj regulations, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

The passports chief said these communities should operate 24/7 during Hajj season to identify and penalize individuals transporting unauthorized pilgrims.

Authorities in Saudi Arabia arrested 21 people at entrances to Makkah when they tried to enter without a valid Hajj permit, SPA reported on Saturday.

The Ministry of Interior has called on all citizens and expatriates to abide by Hajj regulations and instructions so that pilgrims may perform their rituals in safety, security and comfort.

Makkah security arrests four residents for Hajj scam

MAKKAH: Four people selling fake Hajj permits and bracelets and promoting bogus Hajj campaigns were arrested by security patrols in Makkah, Saudi Press Agency reported on Monday.

Cash, seals, mobile phones and computers being used in the scams were seized and the four residents, from Pakistan and Myanmar, referred to the Public Prosecution.

Earlier, two Egyptian residents were arrested for fraudulent social media adverts that fraudulently offered accommodation, transport and the securing of a sacrifice to pilgrims.

The authorities are warning people to be wary of similar adverts, including those offering services such as performing Hajj on behalf of other people.

Saudi ministry of commerce officials inspect 24,880 shops ahead of Hajj

RIYADH: Officials from Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Commerce have inspected 24,880 shops in Makkah and Madinah to ensure they comply with the country’s business regulations.

The shops were in the central areas of the two holy mosques, the Haramain train stations, commercial centers, gold and jewelry markets, and petrol stations.

There were 1,259 violations recorded, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.

Inspections will continue throughout the Hajj period, the ministry has indicated.

Saudi Arabia to promote camel industry at UN exhibition in Rome

RIYADH: The Kingdom will promote the camel industry at the UN Food and Agriculture Organization meeting in Rome this week, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Sunday.

The exhibition, from June 10 to 14, will showcase locally manufactured products, and their contribution to food security and health in the Kingdom.

It will also emphasize the cultural importance of camels in Saudi Arabia society.

The Kingdom’s participation in the FAO’s council meeting comes as a part of its co-chairmanship of the International Year of Camelids 2024.

The Kingdom’s delegation is being led by Ahmed Al-Eyada, undersecretary at the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and chairman of the steering committee for the International Year of Camelids 2024.

More than 13 government agencies and private sector companies will participate in the exhibition. They will display various food, medical and cosmetic products derived from camels.
