Pakistani bikers arrive in Makkah, perform Umrah amid Saudi 'love and hospitality'

  • Pakistani bikers started traveling from Lahore to the kingdom on January 6 while exploring Iran and UAE on their way
  • The group members praise Saudi citizens for their hospitality, say a number of people arranged receptions in their honor

ISLAMABAD: A group of 26 Pakistani bikers has arrived in Makkah and performed Umrah after traveling through Iran and the United Arab Emirates, said one of its members on Tuesday while praising Saudi nationals for their generous hospitality.

The bikers decided to undertake the trip after the kingdom eased travel rules for Umrah pilgrims, extending the duration of their visas for three months and allowing them to visit other cities.

The Pakistani adventurers left Lahore on January 6 before reaching Saudi Arabia on January 21 to spend 19 days.

“It is indeed a dream come true and I am unable to tell my feelings when we entered the Holy Mosque in Makkah,” Jahangir Khan, a biker, told Arab News over the phone. “Since we arrived in Saudi Arabia about ten days back, the Saudis have showered their love, respect, and hospitality on us all the way to Makkah.”

Khan said the group stayed in Riyadh for three days where different people and communities arranged receptions for them.

“On the way to Makkah from Riyadh, it took us another three days and no one took any money from us for our food or other things,” he continued. “They called us their noble guests as we came all the way from Pakistan on bikes to perform Umrah.”

The Pakistani biker informed an international sports organizer, Khadija Malik, arranged a ceremony in Makkah for all his group members on Monday night to welcome them.
Hamzah Gilani, press counselor with Pakistan’s consulate general Jeddah, applauded the adventurers for promoting peace and a soft image of his country, saying their trip demonstrated how diplomacy extended far beyond the traditional realm of politics.
“Their journey indicates that sports and cultural activities have the potential to be even more effective tools in international relations,” he told Arab News. “This initiative is also an encouraging display of Pakistan’s commitment to forging closer relationships with other countries.”

Pakistan leaders wish Saudi King Salman well after hospital admission for tests

  • Pakistani PM and President express concern, pray for the King's swift recovery
  • The official Saudi media has not shared the nature of the King’s visit to the hospital

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s prime minister and president on Friday expressed concern over the health of Saudi Arabia’s King Salman bin Abdulaziz, offering prayers and well wishes after state media said he had been admitted to hospital in Riyadh for medical examinations.

The Saudi Press Agency reported the King was undergoing medical tests at King Faisal Specialist Hospital in Riyadh, with no further information regarding the nature of the visit or his medical condition.

In a post on X, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Pakistanis held the Saudi King in high regard and were praying for his recovery.

“Deeply concerned by the news that Custodian of The Two Holy Mosques His Majesty King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is admitted in hospital for medical tests,” he said. “The people of Pakistan hold His Majesty in the highest esteem. We join our Saudi brothers and sisters in praying for His Majesty’s swift and complete recovery.”

President Asif Ali Zardari also conveyed his wishes, saying the entire Pakistani nation was praying for the Saudi King’s health and well-being, according to a statement issued by the presidency.

Pakistan has longstanding diplomatic and institutional ties with Saudi Arabia, and its leadership has consistently expressed deep respect for the Saudi royal family, particularly in view of the Kingdom’s religious significance and its role in the Muslim world.
