ABHA, 30 July — One of the most adventurous and exciting events of the Abha Shopping Festival is a monster truck and motorbike show which is attracting huge crowds every day. The month-long festival, which began on July 10, is being held at Abha exhibition ground near the airport.

This spectacular, all-Saudi show is being performed by a team of five young brothers — Saleh, Sulaiman, Mansoor, Badar and Metaib — who hail from Al Qasim. Beside them, two Saudis — Khaled Al Samai and Mishal — produce breath-taking stunts on motorbikes.

"We started this sport as a hobby but decided to pursue it as a profession and promote the domestic entertainment industry," said Saleh A. Geffari whose Zinjer Motor Sports has organized the show.

The show includes monster truck jumps about 8 meter long and 2 meter high, car crushing, snake style driving and various other hair-raising feats

The seemingly dangerous item was a Toyota four wheel vehicle driven on two side wheels. The two motorbike riders exhibited their skill by jumping over the trucks, at a height of six meters and crossing a distance of about 15 meters.

All the five monster trucks used in the show were assembled in Qasim. Two Jeeps and two motorbikes are also part of the show. It took several years to put the huge machines into shape, said Saleh.

The monster truck crew has performed in Riyadh, Jeddah, Alkhobar and Dubai besides doing some stunts for an Indian movie.

"We have never seen such an exciting show before in the Kingdom," said Abdullah Amri, a resident of Asir who came to the exhibition with his family.
