JEDDAH, 24 May — Filipinos in Jeddah and nearby areas who are planning to go into business are being invited to attend a seminar-workshop organized by the Overseas Filipino Workers Cooperative Council (OFWCC).
Sponsored by POLO and OWWA under the auspices of the Philippine Consulate General, the “8th Entrepreneurship and Livelihood Seminar” will be held for four consecutive Fridays, starting today.
The whole-day seminar will start at 8 a.m. and participation will be on “first come first serve” basis, said OFWCC spokesman and education committee chairman Fred Castolome.
He said the seminar will be held at the Tropicana Restaurant along Tahlia St., corner Madinah Road, not at the consulate as earlier notices have mentioned.
Resource speakers will be sharing their expertise free of charge just to help guide fellow OFWs in their future business ventures.
Consul General had been invited to give an inspiration speech on opening day and Welfare Officer Mustapha Glang will give an overview of the OWWA’s program for OFWs.
Other speakers are Ernie Geslani, chairman of the PSI-MPC, who will discuss the characteristics of a successful entrepreneur. Gil Martos, an official of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in Jeddah, will share his expertise in business planning. Preparation of feasibility studies will also be discussed.
On May 31, e-business (e-commerce) will be discussed by Nat Austria in the morning session. In the afternoon, participants will learn about livestock business (duck and swine raising).
Marine biologist Nelson Doren will lecture on aquaculture business (bangus, prawns and tilapia farming) on June 7.
On the June 14, the topic will be on investment opportunities, with well-known Filipino bank executives in the region sharing share their expertise. An OFWBank project will also be presented by Jimmy Leonida while Edesia Cristino, a multi-awardee in the insurance circle, will talk about the insurance business and fur why 20 big international insurance companies all over the world came to Manila four years ago and compete with local insurance companies in the Philippines.
Dawood Engay, OFWCC chairman, said the resource speakers are all voluntarily sharing their expertise in a bid to help fellow OFWs map out their future business ventures.
