Bahrainis abroad participate in parliamentary elections

  • Elections in Bahrain will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12

DUBAI: Bahrainis living abroad are participating in parliamentary elections on Tuesday.
Counselor Nawaf Abdullah Hamza, the Chairman of the Legislation and Legal Opinion Commission, said citizens would be able to vote via 37 diplomatic headquarters abroad, wrote state agency BNA.
Polling and counting committees were made available to people from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., according to the local time of the city in which the embassy, consulate or diplomatic mission is located.
Hamza said parliamentary elections abroad were a reflection of Bahrain’s keenness to allow citizens outside of the country to exercise their constitutional right.
He said all preparations were completed through ongoing coordination with Bahrain’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, to ensure integrity and transparency similar to the electoral system inside the Kingdom.
Polling and counting committees abroad are located in embassies, consulates and missions in cities such as Jeddah, Abu Dhabi, Islamabad, Ankara, Paris and Cairo.
Meanwhile, elections in Bahrain will be held on Saturday, Nov. 12.
The Executive Management of the Elections will be adding results from polls abroad to those received in Bahrain once the process has been completed.

Israel objects to US announcement of leaders who will play a role in overseeing next steps in Gaza

  • Trump administration earlier in the week said the US-drafted ceasefire plan for Gaza was now moving into its challenging second phase

JERUSALEM: Israel’s government is objecting to the White House announcement of leaders who will play a role in overseeing next steps in Gaza.

The rare criticism from Israel of its close ally in Washington says the Gaza executive committee “was not coordinated with Israel and is contrary to its policy,” without details.

Saturday’s statement also said Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the foreign ministry to contact Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

The committee announced by the White House on Friday includes no Israeli official but has an Israeli businessman. Other members announced so far include two of President Donald Trump’s closest confidants, a former British prime minister, an American general and a collection of top officials from Middle Eastern governments.
