Global Security Forum returns to Riyadh for second edition

  • Forum covers five sub-themes on socioeconomic and geopolitical considerations that shape global cyberspace
  • Sessions include interactive simulations, case studies, panel discussions, pavilions

RIYADH: The National Cybersecurity Authority is launching its second edition of the Global Security Forum from Nov. 9-10 at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Riyadh.

The forum, which will be held this year under the theme “Rethinking the Global Cyber Order,” aims to strengthen cooperation on cybersecurity issues, exchange knowledge among participants, and find innovative solutions to the cyber threats that Gulf Cooperation Council countries face.

In an increasingly digital world, the cyber landscape is more complex than ever.

The GSF 2022 explores five sub-themes that tackle the ever-changing socioeconomic and geopolitical considerations that shape global cyberspace.

The first sub-theme, “Geo-Cyber Evolution,” is concerned with understanding the evolving international cyberspace order. Sessions will cover topics such as geo-technological competition and conflict as well as opportunities for stability and peace.

Through interactive simulations and case studies, the second sub-theme, “Disruption Frontier,” will explore future technologies as potential solutions to current and future cybersecurity threats.

Under the third sub-theme, “Cyber Economics,” sessions will focus on how leveraging market forces, incentives and economic governance shape cyberspace.

Covering the human dimensions of cybersecurity, the fourth sub-theme, “The Future of Cyber Work,” will address how to attract, retain and foster highly skilled talent by understanding challenges and incentivization and the various dimensions of competition.

The final sub-theme, “No One Left Behind,” will address the challenges women face in cybersecurity, promote greater diversity and inclusion and discuss ways to ensure children globally can benefit from cyberspace.

Organizers describe the event as “action-oriented,” bringing together the best minds from the government, the private sector, civil society and academia to advance the global cybersecurity agenda and create a safer cyberspace.

The GSF 2022 will also include solution design sessions, pavilions, panel discussions and memorandum signings.

Saudi Hajj Ministry suspends Umrah firm, overseas agent over contract violations

  • Company failed to provide accommodation for a number of Umrah pilgrims, despite these services being documented in the contractual programs, ministry says

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah on Sunday announced the suspension of an Umrah company and its overseas agent for failing to provide accommodation services for pilgrims in line with approved contractual programs.

In a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency, the ministry said the company’s failure constitutes a clear violation of regulations governing services for Umrah pilgrims and visitors to the Two Holy Mosques.

It noted that a number of pilgrims arrived in the Kingdom without secured accommodation, despite these services being documented in the contractual programs.

This prompted immediate regulatory action against the company and its overseas agent under the established legal frameworks, the ministry said.

"The measures are intended to safeguard the rights of affected pilgrims, prevent a recurrence of such violations, and ensure the continued enhancement of service quality," it added.

Last June, the ministry suspended seven Umrah companies due to deficiencies in providing transport services to pilgrims.

In an earlier report quoting the Hajj Ministry and the General Authority for the Care of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, SPA said more than 1.7 million Muslims from all over the world arrived in the Kingdom to perform Umrah during Jumada Al Akhira alone.

Also referred to as Jumada Al Thani, Jumada Al Akhira is the sixth month of the Islamic calendar. For Hijri year 1447, this sixth month ended on December 20, 2025 in the Gregorian calendar.
