RIYADH: King Salman has granted 200 Saudi citizens with the King Abdulaziz Medal of Third Class as appreciation for their registration in a government organ donation program, the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported on Tuesday.
King Salman himself, as well as Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, have registered in the Kingdom’s organ donor program in 2021 as a humanitarian gesture.
As part of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, the donor program was established to help ease the suffering of the increasing number of patients with kidney failure, SPA earlier reported.
The program has since expanded to include all patients with final organ failure, and those whose recovery depends on new organs, such as hearts, livers, lungs among others.
