ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's foreign minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said on Sunday his country attributed "special importance" to its relations with the European Union while holding a meeting with EU ambassador Androulla Kaminara.
The EU has a special trade arrangement with Pakistan, making it easier for local businesses to export their products to the region for little or no duty.
According to the foreign office, the two officials discussed matters of mutual interests.
"Pakistan attaches special importance to its bilateral and multidimensional relations with the European Union," Qureshi was quoted as saying in an official statement. "In view of its economic priorities, Pakistan is committed to implementing joint plans of the next phase of the strategic partnership with the European Union."
Earlier this month, representatives of European countries in Islamabad urged the government to condemn the Russian invasion of Ukraine in a letter to the government.
This resulted in some friction between the two sides, making Prime Minister Imran Khan sharply react to the development and calling it against all diplomatic protocols.
However, the foreign minister praised the EU envoy for playing a positive role in stabilizing the diplomatic ties between the two sides.
