ISLAMABAD: The National Assembly of Pakistan will convene a politically significant session on Friday in which the third agenda item relates to the opposition's no-confidence motion against Prime Minister Imran Khan.
The 41st session of the lower house of parliament was summoned on March 25 by National Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser who was bitterly criticized by the opposition for "violating" the constitution since a 14-day deadline to convene the session on no-trust requisition had to expire on March 21.
The National Assembly Secretariat shared the six-page agenda for today's session on its website Thursday night.
It mentioned the no-trust motion, saying: "That leave be granted to move resolution for vote of no-confidence under Article 95(1) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, read with rule 37 of the Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business in the National Assembly, 2007, against Mr. Imran Khan, the Prime Minister of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan."
The document added the vote of no-confidence against the prime minister would be moved "if leave is granted."
It also inscribed part of the opposition's resolution that reads: "This House is of the view that the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mr. Imran Khan, has lost the confidence of the majority of the members of the National Assembly of Pakistan, therefore he should cease to hold office."
The 41st National Assembly session, which will commence with the recitation of Holy Quran at 11 am, is likely to witness fiery exchanges among lawmakers belonging to government and opposition parties.
