Pakistan holds exhibition in Iraq to increase bilateral trade

  • Over 80 Pakistani companies and 200 business leaders are participating in the event
  • The exhibition has been designed to help Pakistani companies explore business opportunities in Iraq

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s diplomatic mission in Iraq is holding its first-ever “Pakistan Single Country Exhibition” in Baghdad to enhance trade between the two countries, said the foreign ministry on Wednesday.

The Pakistan-Iraq relations have received a boost with a number of high-level visits since last year.

The two countries signed a deal to promote bilateral cooperation in the field of tourism in January.

Last year in August, Iraq’s foreign minister Dr. Fuad Hussein visited Islamabad to discuss ways of strengthening relations between the two sides.

Pakistan’s exhibition in Baghdad was inaugurated by former Iraqi prime minister Ayad Allawi and sports minister Adnan Dirjal on Tuesday. The event is scheduled to continue for the next three days.

“84 leading Pakistani companies and more than two hundred businessmen are participating in the exhibition displaying and promoting Pakistani products,” the foreign office said in its statement.

The exhibitors belong to different Pakistani cities and cover more than 20 economic sectors, including agriculture, sports, textile, cosmetics, logistics, pharmaceutical and manufacturing.

Pakistan’s embassy in Iraq has also arranged business-to-business meetings between Pakistani and Iraqi companies.

“The exhibition will pave the way for Pakistani businessmen to explore Iraqi market and increase trade between two countries,” the statement read.
