JEDDAH: Gabon’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Saudi Arabia Ibrahim Membourou has held talks with Hissein Brahim Taha, secretary-general of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, as part of efforts to enhance cooperation with the OIC.

During the meeting at the headquarters of the OIC General Secretariat in Jeddah, the two sides discussed ways and means to consolidate the relations of cooperation between Gabon and the OIC, and to promote joint Islamic action.

They also explored avenues to strengthen cooperation between Gabon and the OIC, as well as promoting joint Islamic action in a way that benefits member states.

The Gabonese envoy expressed his country’s commitment to supporting the OIC, its programs and activities.

Membourou said that he would spare no effort to give new impetus to the role of Gabon within the organization.

During the meeting, the OIC secretary-general and Gabon’s ambassador reviewed stability issues in many parts of Africa, and discussed the organization’s role in promoting peace and security on the continent.

In December last year, the OIC chief also met the consul general of Gabon in Jeddah, Abdelaziz Branly Oupolo. They discussed cooperation between the organization and Gabon.

The OIC is the second-largest organization in the world after the UN, with 57 member states spread over four continents.

It seeks to safeguard and protect the interests of more than 1.5 billion Muslims worldwide, promoting international peace and harmony.

The organization has consultative and cooperative relations with the UN and other intergovernmental organizations to protect the vital interests of Muslims, and to work for the settlement of conflicts and disputes involving member states.
