ISLAMABAD: Pakistan have grabbed the 2nd position in the ICC Twenty20 Rankings on the back of their three consecutive victories in the ongoing T20 World Cup in Dubai.
With 9,792 points in 37 matches, the ‘Men in Green’ surpassed India to rank 2nd after England, according to latest rankings issued on Friday.
Before the start of the T20 World Cup, Pakistan were five points behind India. They got the crucial points after their thumping wins against India, New Zealand and Afghanistan in the ongoing ICC tournament.
Pakistan ranked 2nd with 265 rating points, while archrivals India stood 3rd with just one point less. England were on top with 279 rating points.
The rankings will continue to change as the tournament moves forward.
On Wednesday, the international cricket’s governing body updated players’ rankings as well, with Pakistan’s Haris Rauf and Shaheen Shah Afridi making a significant progress among bowlers.
Rauf ranked 17th and Afridi 12th in the limited-over format.
Among batters, Mohammad Rizwan jumped three positions to rank 4th on the ICC list, only behind Dawid Malan, Babar Azam and Aiden Markram.
Rizwan scored 79 against India and 33 against New Zealand in the first two T20 World Cup matches.
Pakistan captain Babar Azam retained the 2nd position, but he managed to close the gap with Dawid Malan.
Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hassan reclaimed the top spot among all-rounders, while South Africa’s Tabraiz Shamsi led the bowlers’ chart.
