French-Tunisian actress Sonia Ammar shares first look of ‘Scream 5’ role

DUBAI: French-Tunisian rising star Sonia Ammar has given “Scream” fans a glimpse of her latest role ahead of the film’s first trailer. The model, singer and actress took to Instagram this week to share a photo of Liv, her character in the famed horror franchise’s screen return next year.

“Your first look at my character Liv in the new #ScreamMovie – In theaters Jan. 14, 2022. Trailer tomorrow,” the 22-year-old captioned a series of images from the new film.

While not much is known about Liv, the film — directed by filmmaking duo Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett — revolves around a new killer who dons the Ghostface mask and begins targeting teenagers to resurrect secrets from Woodsboro’s past.

New cast member Melissa Barrera told fans on Twitter that they “ain’t ready” for the reboot and what it has to offer. “Saw the final cut of #ScreamMovie Y’all ain’t ready,” she wrote on Twitter.

The first poster for the new film featuring a knife-wielding Ghostface was also teased this week.

The first “Scream” film was released in 1996, well before Ammar was born. A smash hit on its debut, the Wes Craven-directed movie helped to revive the horror genre, becoming the highest-grossing slasher film of all-time.

The forthcoming film marks Paris-born Ammar’s first high-profile Hollywood gig as an actress. She joins returning cast members David Arquette, Courteney Cox and Neve Campbell, who are all reprising their iconic roles as Dewey Riley, Gale Weathers and Sidney Prescott.

However, it is not the model’s first foray into the film industry.

Ammar, daughter of Tunisian film director Tarek Ben Ammar and actress Beata, previously starred in Guillaume Canet’s French-language film “Jappeloup” as well as the stage musical “1789: Les Amants de la Bastille.”

She has also appeared in several music videos, including “Drivin’ Thru the Night” by DJ Petit Biscuit, as well as clips for her own singles, such as “Joyride” from her debut EP.

In addition to music, Ammar has worked for major brands, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Miu Miu, Carolina Herrera and Chanel, along with prestigious fashion houses.

Millie Bobby Brown stars in new advert for Yas Island in Abu Dhabi

DUBAI: British actress Millie Bobby Brown is starring in a new advert for entertainment destination Yas Island in Abu Dhabi.

With a nod to “Stranger Things,” Brown is seen buckling into Formula Rossa, the world’s fastest rollercoaster alongside her husband Jake Bongiovi.

Moments before launch, she asks him about the speed, and when he replies “240 km an hour,” she makes a quick exit. The advert continues with lights flickering and Brown and other characters glitching with effects reminiscent of the hit Netflix series.

Created by the Duffer Brothers, “Stranger Things” debuted in 2016 and quickly became one of Netflix’s most popular series, with its fourth season amassing more than 140.7 million views globally.

The series has garnered over 70 awards worldwide, including Emmys and the Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

Brown was announced as a brand ambassador for Yas Island in November.

The Netflix show’s final season five is being released in stages. The first four episodes streamed on Nov. 26, and will be followed by three on Dec. 25, and the finale on New Year’s Eve.

In her first promotional clip for Yas Island, she is seen back in the Byers’ living room, made famous on the show, framed by the glow of the iconic alphabet wall that is a key element of the “Stranger Things” storyline.

In the video, she jokes about taking a holiday after five seasons of the show as the lights begin to flicker, illuminating one by one until they spell out “YAS.”

Brown is the latest celebrity to take on a role with Yas Island, following Ryan Reynolds, Kevin Hart and Jason Momoa, who were all “Chief Island Officers.”

The actors starred in a series of amusing adverts for the entertainment destination, including Reynolds appearing to skydive over Abu Dhabi.
