RABAT: The secretary-general of the Muslim World League (MWL) said that the “Makkah Document” carries an enlightened message, signed in the holiest city in Islam by more than 1,200 prominent Muslim scholars and 4,500 Islamic intellectuals from 139 countries and 27 Muslim schools of thought.
Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa, who is also the chairman of the Association of Muslim Scholars, made his remarks in a lecture at an international symposium titled “The Makkah Al-Mukarramah Document: Achievements and Prospects,” organized by The Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), in cooperation with MWL in the Moroccan capital, Rabat.
The MWL chief reviewed the most prominent features of the document, stressing that it demonstrated where Islam stands on a number of pressing contemporary issues.
He said that the document affirms the need to respect the existence of others and preserve their dignity and rights with coexistence, partnership and cooperation, pointing to the focus on the importance of effective religious and civilizational dialogue.
Al-Issa pointed to the document’s keenness to develop Islamic societies, confront corruption, preserve the environment and rationalize religious sentiment, especially among Muslim youth.
“The hijackers of some Muslim youth rely on unconscious emotion to achieve their goals. It is the responsibility of the family and the relevant governmental and civil institutions for raising the educational awareness of youth to immune them against these extreme ideologies,” he said.
