JEDDAH: The 13th national show jumping competition concluded Saturday evening at Jeddah’s Trio Ranch, bringing together riders and horses from stables and equestrian clubs across the Kingdom.
The event was held in cooperation with the Saudi Equestrian Federation and started Friday evening. There were five classes of competition and also a special show from Arwa Mutabagani, who is considered to be Saudi Arabia’s first female equestrian and is director of Trio Ranch Country Club.
Mutabagani awarded the winners with their share of a total purse of SR28,990 ($7,730) including prizes from sponsors.
“The championship managed to achieve its goals and encourage young men and women to practice equestrian sports with the support of the federation. The technical levels of the participants are high and we look forward to establishing many championships and events in the coming period to attract and encourage a great number of participants,” she said.
The championship marked the return of Mutabagani to the Kingdom’s equestrian arena after an absence of 10 years. She competed internationally in show jumping and has served as a board member of the Saudi Equestrian Federation. The athlete said she put on the show to encourage new generations to experience horse riding.
Spectators at the championship enjoyed the performance of 10-year-old Jory Ghazi Badkook, who drew attention for her equestrian skills and ability.
The competition also featured an event village with activities.
