Pakistanis mark the start of Ramadan with first fast on Tuesday

  • President urges people not to forget the sacrifices of martyrs who laid down their lives for the country

ISLAMABAD: Several across Pakistan observed the first day of Ramadan on Tuesday, by fasting from dawn to dusk.
Fasting during Ramadan is one of the five pillars of Islam, where Muslims abstain from food and drink from sunrise to sunset for a month. This is followed by the sighting of the new moon and is marked by Eid-ul-Fitr, a religious holiday and celebration that is observed by Muslims across the world.
In his message to congratulate the nation on the start of the month, President Dr. Arif Alvi implored Muslims to take full advantage of the from the generosities and blessings of the month.
He also urged the nation not to forget the sacrifices made by martyrs who laid down their lives for the sake of the country’s peace and prosperity and prayed to Allah to grant tolerance, religious harmony, affection, brotherhood and well-being to the nation.
