As the Saudi Capital Market Authority (CMA) deputy for strategy and international affairs, Bander Al-Sajjan oversees research and policy development, international relations and the authority’s fintech initiative.

Before joining the CMA in 2016, Al-Sajjan was deputy head of development and quality at the Institute of Public Administration (IPA) in Riyadh.

He was a board member of both the International Association of Schools and Institutes of Administration (Brussels) from 2013-2016, and the Human Resources Development Fund (Riyadh) from 2012-2016.

In 2008, Al-Sajjan gained a Ph.D. from Brunel University London, focusing on online banking. In 2001, he was awarded an MBA by Scranton University in the US. His research has been published in academic journals including the Journal of Business Research and the Journal of Public Administration (Arabic).

In an address to the Financial Sector Conference in Riyadh, Al-Sajjan outlined the growth in fintech over the past decade and the increasing sophistication of new applications. Rapid growth has created a challenge for regulators seeking to balance oversight and risk mitigation with an enabling environment.

Delegates include ministers from the finance, economy and strategic ministries, as well as top policymakers.

Saudi Arabia acknowledges ‘effective cooperation’ after Lebanese authorities seize narco lab

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia highlighted the productive cooperation between the Kingdom and Lebanon after the seizure of a drugs facility. 

The Saudi interior ministry said the lab was being used to manufacture narcotic substances and  precursor materials, in addition to firearms. 

The ministry statement, posted on social media early on Thursday, said the Kingdom acknowledges the effective cooperation with the Lebanese authorities in monitoring and controlling narcotic substances. 

The Kingdom reaffirmed its commitment to continuing efforts to combat criminal activities that threaten its security and youth through drugs, by confronting, thwarting, and apprehending those involved, the statement added.
