Senegal university student dies after protest clashes with police

DAKAR: A student has died after clashes erupted between police and students protesting delays in stipend payments at a Senegal university, the west African country’s government said on Tuesday.
The unrest broke out at the Sheikh Anta Diop university in the capital Dakar on Monday, it said in a statement.
A second-year medical student, Abdoulaye Ba, died as a result, the government spokeswoman said in the statement.
Protests have sporadically broken out at several Senegalese universities over the past several months, with student demanding they be paid their stipends.
