Saudi National Guard minister inaugurates medical research forum

  • Prince Khalid stressed the importance of the research center to the Saudi health sector.

JEDDAH: National Guard Minister Prince Khalid bin Abdul Aziz bin Ayyaf sponsored the ninth Annual Forum for Medical Research titled “Achieving the National Vision through Medical Research.”

The three-day forum was organized by the King Abdullah International Medical Research Center at King Abdul Aziz University for Health Science, with the participation of experts and health practitioners from Saudi Arabia and abroad.

The prince was received by Bandar Al-Qanawi, executive director for health affairs at the National Guard Ministry, Saad Al-Mohrej, director general of the ministry’s medical affairs department and other officials.

The forum, Al-Qanawi said, is in line with an ambitious national vision that sees scientific research as a pillar of advanced development. Prince Khalid stressed the importance of the research center to the Saudi health sector.

Aspirations

Prince Khalid said the center aims to provide the best health, scientific and research care, and achieve the aspirations of the government under the leadership of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.

He added that the Saudi government has paid great attention to scientific research and study of the results, turning them into economic and cognitive products to optimize academic work to achieve Vision 2030.

Saudi Arabia condemns blast that hit mosque in Alawite area of Syria’s Homs

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia condemned an explosion at a mosque of the ​Alawite minority sect in the Syrian city of Homs on Friday that killed eight people.

The city’s press office said an explosive device had detonated inside the Imam Ali bin Abi Talib mosque and that security forces had cordoned off the area.

Syrian news agency SANA ‌cited health ‌ministry official Najib Al-Naasan as saying ‌18 others ​were ‌wounded and that the figures were not final, indicating they could rise.

Extremist Syrian group Saraya Ansar Al-Sunnah said on its Telegram channels that it carried out the attack. The group previously claimed responsibility for a suicide bombing at a Damascus church in June that killed 20 people.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said: “The Kingdom affirms its categorical rejection of terrorism, extremism, targeting of mosques and places of worship, and terrorizing innocent people. It expresses its solidarity with Syria in this great tragedy, and its support for the Syrian government’s efforts to establish security and stability.”

The statement extended the Kingdom’s condolences to the families of the victims and to the government and people of Syria. It also wished the injured a speedy recovery.
