Hani Al-Nakhli is a Saudi Arabian Paralympic athlete who has earned multiple medals in various categories. He has competed and represented Saudi Arabia in disability athletics for nearly a decade.
On Tuesday, Al-Nakhli won a silver medal in the shot-put competition at the 2018 Asian Para Games with a distance of 9:37 meters.
The 2018 Asian Para Games, also known as the 3rd Asian Para Games, is a multi-sport event that is held every four years, and is currently taking place in Jakarta.
After earning his most recent silver medal, Al-Nakhli expressed pride in his achievement, and highlighted the ability of Saudi athletes to reach honorable levels and accomplishments in the world of handicapped athletics.
In addition to his silver medal at the 2018 Asian Para Games, Al-Nakhli won the gold medal in the combined F32–34 class for discus while setting a new world record for the F33 category at the 2010 Asian Para Games in Guangzhou, China.
In the 2011 Paralympic World Cup in Manchester, Al-Nakhli broke his previous world record in discus in the F33 category, and once again broke his world record at the 2012 London Paralympic Games winning a silver in the combined F32/33/34 class.
At the 2013 World championships, Al-Nakhli set a championship record for the F33 class, but had to settle for a bronze medal in a combined F32-34 event. In 2017, at the Dubai Grand Prix, the fiercely contested discus F33 category was once again won by Al-Nakhli, who added 1.53m on to the world record mark that he set back in 2015. The 31-year-old’s 31.03m effort easily earned him a gold medal.
