GAZA CITY: A teenager was shot dead by the Israeli army during renewed clashes on the Gaza border Friday, the health ministry in the Palestinian strip said.
Bilal Khafaja, 17, was shot in the chest during clashes east of Rafah in southern Gaza, the ministry said in a statement.
Thousands of protesters again approached the border in multiple locations Friday evening, the latest in months of violent demonstrations.
Balloons with incendiary devices attached were again flown across the border, after being largely absent in recent weeks.
Earlier Friday a Palestinian succumbed to his wounds, two months after being shot during protests, the health ministry said.
Amjed Hamdouna, 19, was wounded on July 14.
At least 174 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire in Gaza since protests broke out on March 30.
One Israeli soldier was shot by a Palestinian sniper.
The protesters are calling for Palestinian refugees to be allowed to return to the homes they fled from in the war surrounding Israel's creation in 1948.
Israel accuses Gaza's rulers Hamas of manipulating the protests and of seeking to plan attacks.

UN chief Guterres condemns Middle East escalation
NEW YORK: The United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres condemned an escalation of violence in the Middle East on Saturday after Israel and the US launched strikes on Iran, plunging the region into a renewed military confrontation.
Tehran responded by launching missiles at Israel and called the strikes against it unprovoked and illegal.
“I condemn today’s military escalation in the Middle East. The use of force by the United States and Israel against Iran, and the subsequent retaliation by Iran across the region, undermine international peace and security,” he said.
“I call for an immediate cessation of hostilities and de-escalation. Failing to do so risks a wider regional conflict with grave consequences for civilians and regional stability. I strongly encourage all parties to return immediately to the negotiating table.
“I reiterate that there is no viable alternative to the peaceful settlement of international disputes, in full accordance with international law, including the UN Charter,” he added.
