RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s paralympians have joined the International Special Olympics in celebrating its Golden Jubilee on Friday by illuminating two landmark sites in the kingdom.
The paralympians have marked their 50th anniversary by lighting in red the Riyadh-based Kingdom and Palm Towers.
Under the slogan: “Illumination for Integration,” the Saudi Paralympics have joined more than 170 tourist and archaeological landmarks lit in red to commemorate the anniversary.
The President of the Saudi Special Olympics’ Committee, Maher bin Saad Al-Jaded, said he was happy and proud that the Kingdom is taking part commemorating the launch of one of the most important humanitarian movements, for people with disabilities, in the world.
“Saudi Arabia’s participation in this day is a continuation for our wise leadership in supporting our children with special needs in all fields, including sports, by sponsoring more than 20 olympic sports events for special needs every year.”

Peters expressed New Zealand’s condemnation of Iran’s indiscriminate attacks on the Kingdom and thanked Riyadh for its efforts to protect foreign nationals, including New Zealanders inside the Kingdom.
The Saudi military has shot down numerous missiles and drones fired by Tehran toward the Kingdom since the US and Israel began a large-scale military campaign against Iran on Feb. 28.
The Saudi Defense Ministry said early Tuesday that it had shot down a ballistic missile in the Eastern Province after knocking out several drones targeting the Shaybah oil field in the Empty quarter on Friday evening.
