Pakistan announces to hold general election on 25 July

ISLAMABAD: President Mamnoon Hussain on Saturday evening approved a summary sent by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to hold the general election on July 25 this year.

Early this week the ECP suggested in its summery to the president to hold general election on either July 25, 26 or 27 .

According to the constitution of Pakistan, elections for the national and provincial assemblies are to be held within 60 days after the assemblies complete their term.

The five-year constitutional term of the national and provincial assemblies Punjab will end on May 31; three other provincial assemblies of Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan province will complete their terms on May 28.
