Javed Hashmi rejoins PML-N ahead of 2018 general elections

  • He had left the party in 2011 after differences with its leadership, and joined Imran Khan’s PTI
  • “Nawaz Sharif was my leader and will remain my leader. I stood with Nawaz Sharif in the most testing of times,” said Hashmi

ISLAMABAD: Veteran politician Javed Hashmi, speaking at a corner meeting of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz in Multan on Saturday, said he had accepted the offer of returning to PML-N ahead of the general elections scheduled to take place in June this year, reported a local daily.
“Nawaz Sharif was my leader and will remain my leader. I stood with Nawaz Sharif in the most testing of times,” Hashmi told the participants of the corner meeting.
Hashmi added that he had decided to join the rebellion against forces which did not respect the sanctity of the vote. Hashmi had left PML-N in 2011 after differences with the party leadership, joining Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) instead.
Earlier, the politician had advised the army’s public relations arm to “avoid involving itself in civil affairs.”
While praising the army, the veteran said: “Pakistan Army is one of the most organized and mighty institutions in the country. It can save the country from any ordeal.” He added, however, that the institution should not indulge in politics.
Hashmi showed concern about the fairness of the forthcoming general elections. Citing alleged rigging and manipulation in the Senate election, he claimed: “The next government will be formed under the same pattern applied in the recently held Senate election.”
