CAIRO: Egypt’s Al-Ahly coach blamed the team’s Friday goalless draw against Tunisia’s Esperance on “refereeing mistakes.”
Coach Hossam El-Badry praised his team’s performance during a press conference after the match but was critical of the refereeing decisions.
“I would like to thank the players for their effort to deliver a strong game. We dominated the match, but the opponent intended to play harshly and also to waste time,” he said to Ahram Online.
“We play through difficult circumstances as we miss some key players due to injury, but all the players did their best,” he added.
Al-Ahly, eight-time African champions, dominated the match at the start of the second half.
Only when Ahly player Marwan Mohsin finally broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, his goal was ruled out for offside.
“Ahly’s right is wasted because of refereeing mistakes. The media should stand behind us and play a role to stop this,” El-Badry said.
“They chose the same referee of last season’s match and so the mistakes were repeated.”
