ISLAMABAD: A man hurled a shoe at former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Sunday in Lahore.
Sharif was attending an event at a seminary. When he reached the podium to deliver a speech, a former seminary student threw a shoe at him.
The former prime minister was unhurt, and people around him immediately caught the shoe-thrower. Sharif delivered his speech and later left the venue.
On Saturday night, a man sprayed ink at the face of Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, who was addressing Pakistan Muslim League — Nawaz (PML-N) workers in his hometown Sialkot in Punjab province.
Party workers grabbed the man and handed him over to the police. Asif left the stage, but returned to complete his address after washing his face.
“Maybe my political opponents gave him some money to throw ink at me,” he said. “I pardon him, and I will ask the police to release him.”
Imran Khan’s political party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), which is very critical of the PML-N, condemned both incidents, saying: “Our moral values don’t allow this.”
Sharif’s daughter Maryam Nawaz condemned the act against Asif, and posted a photo of him on her Twitter profile to show solidarity.
