JEDDAH: Residents in Jeddah and neighboring areas should expect for more rain to fall, the Kingdom’s weather authority said late Tuesday.
“Rain will continue in Jeddah while heavy rain is expected in Makkah and Taif,” the Saudi General Authority of Meteorology & Environmental Protection, said in its latest weather update posted on Twitter.
Torrential rain lashed parts of Saudi Arabia on Tuesday forcing authorities to close schools and universities in some parts of the country.
In the Makkah region, the directorate announced on Twitter the suspension of classes for the safety of students.
As residents went out onto the streets to witness the downpour the Civil Defense called on people to avoid areas prone to flooding, and to avoid going near rivers.
Meanwhile, education officials in Taif and Jeddah announced that all schools would remain closed, citing the weather, state news agency Saudi Press Agency (SPA) reported.
Authorities have closed six tunnels in Jeddah that were flooded by waters due to heavy rains.
Rain and thunderstorms are expected in the Madinah and Makkah regions, including the coastal areas, as well as the mountains of Jazan, Asir and Baha regions.

By addressing AI’s evolving impact on the job market, the conference offers academics, AI and data professionals, policymakers, and students a platform to exchange insights and explore the latest innovations for societal benefit and national development.
An accompanying exhibition will highlight cutting-edge educational and digital transformation solutions from public and private sector organizations.
