The 2014 Arab Woman Awards KSA will be announced Sunday in Riyadh. The winners will be named at a private ceremony held under the auspices of Princess Reema bint Bandar, CEO of Alfa International and Al-Hama LLC.
The prestigious Arab Woman Awards was launched in 2009 by ITP Consumer Publishing, the region’s largest female magazine publishers, which aims to recognize and reward inspirational Arab women across the GCC region who have contributed positively to society.
Sue Holt, founder of the Arab Woman Awards and deputy managing director of ITP, said in a statement: “We are extremely proud to have awarded over 165 remarkable Arab women in the GCC to date. The awards now run annually in Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait and now in KSA.”
“We are thankful for the support of Princess Reema bint Bandar, our patron for the first KSA-held event, and are looking forward to announcing the winners in Riyadh,” she said.
There are 15 award categories. They are: businesswoman, education, art, entrepreneur, literature, sport, fashion, young designer, medical, humanitarian, media, young talent, women in government, inspirational Arab women-of-the-year and lifetime achievement.
This year’s board of judges is headed by Princess Reema and will include Rasha Al-Turki, CEO of Al-Nahda Philanthropic Society for Women, Rola Ashour, counselor and lecturer at Dar Al-Hekma College, Lina Al-Maeena, founder of Jeddah United Basketball Team, and Nadine El-Chaer, editor in chief of Ahlan! Arabia.
In her statement, Holt said: “Careful research into the nominations was conducted. It took the board two months to ensure the winners are nominated objectively based on their accomplishments over the last 12 months and their contribution to Saudi Arabia.”
The 15 winners will be awarded at a glittering women-only ceremony to be attended through invitation only.
Previous recipients of the Arab Woman Awards include Sheikha Jawaher Al-Qassimi, Sheikha Sheikha Al-Nahayan, Huda Al-Matroushi, Fatima Al-Jaber and Sheikha Manal Al-Maktoum.
The KSA awards are being hosted in association with the Abu Dhabi Tourism and Culture Authority, Sayidaty, the Zahra Breast Cancer Association, Al-Faisaliah and Rawaj International.
Mouza Al-Shamsi, marketing director at the Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, said: “We are enthusiastic about supporting an event that will take place across this important region in recognition of the milestones achieved by women in the GCC.”

Saudi project restores Al-Fath Mosque in Makkah
- The mosque in Al-Jumum governorate is one of 60 mosques out of 130 that are undergoing repairs across the Kingdom
RIYADH: The Prince Mohammed bin Salman Project for the Development of Historic Mosques is restoring the Al-Fath Mosque in the Al-Jumum governorate, one of 60 mosques out of 130 undergoing repairs.
Al-Fath Mosque, believed to have been prayed in by the Prophet Muhammad, will expand from 455.77 sq. meters to 553.50 sq. meters, increasing its capacity from 218 to 333 worshippers.
In the first and second phases of the restoration project, workers used natural materials such as brick, basalt stone, gypsum, and wood to preserve the architectural style of the Hijaz region. Traditional elements, such as the intricate wooden balcony screens, will also be preserved.
The mosque is situated 260 meters off the road connecting Makkah and Madinah. It has been subject to prolonged neglect over the years. The last major restoration took place in 1998, during which a prayer area for women and additional facilities were added, according to the Saudi Press Agency.
It is one of the mosques being restored in the second phase of the project, which spans all 13 regions, including Riyadh, Madinah, Aseer, Jouf, and Jazan. The project is part of Vision 2030’s commitment to preserving Saudi Arabia’s cultural heritage and enhancing the historical and religious significance of its mosques.
