Bugatti Vision Gran Turismo: Prelude to most powerful hyper car in world

FRANKFURT: When Bugatti unveiled its latest concept car at Frankfurt Motor Show this year, the Vision Gran Turismo, it expressed the new design language that would prevail in its next model to succeed the Veyron.

That model is currently dubbed the Chiron and will come to the markets in 2017.
The Chiron will take the car industry a step further into hyper power.
The current Veyron, with a 1000 bhp engine, will have power increase by 60 percent in the Chiron with hybrid technology.
These specifications put the car at the top-end of the industry with a 1600 bhp engine that propels the car to 100 km per hour in two seconds and is capable of top speeds of 270 mph.
The concept Vision Gran Turismo is bold, aggressive, and commanding, with powerful haunches and slick aerodynamic front end. There’s enough of the Veyron’s influence to reinforce brand familiarity, but it’s also different enough to keep things fresh and interesting.
La Finale
Production of the current Veyron has now stopped with La Finale special edition unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March this year.
Describing the Vision GT Bugatti design boss Achim Anscheidt said: "Bugatti’s design DNA has reached a new stage in its evolution. In view of the nature of the project, our concept car for Vision Gran Turismo will be exaggerated and extremely performance-oriented.”
Bugatti’s engineers calculate that the Vision Gran Turismo could potentially attain speeds of more than 250mph on four sections of the Le Mans track.
The racing car features Bugatti’s traditional horseshoe emblem on the front grille.
It is positioned in the center of the front air intake as a three-dimensional sculpture, and acts as a support for the front splitter.
The horseshoe is flanked by the eight-eye headlights, which were specially developed for the concept.
They also have an aerodynamic function, since they act as air intakes to cool the brakes.
The driver uses two interior displays, one located on the steering column and linked to three exterior cameras to provide an overview of the track.
Lightweight suede is used for the seats and parts of the cockpit including the steering wheel to provide good grip.
Power for the car is expected to come from a revised version of the Veyron 8.0 liter W16 engine producing as much as 1627 bhp and 1500 Nm of torque. The engine would have a hybrid adaptation.
At Frankfurt, Bugatti boss Wolfgang Dürheimer said: "Bugatti is the world’s most exclusive super sports car brand and Bugatti cars are only available to an extremely small group of automobile connoisseurs.
Uniquely this project started as a Gran Turismo gaming exercise. In 2013 game creator Kazunori Yamauchi invited 28 vehicle manufacturers to submit designs for their dream two-seat sports car. “Gran Turismo 6” players will be able to download and drive the Bugatti concept in the game.
Evolution
The Vision Gran Turismo is the clearest indication yet of the future styling of the Chiron hyper-car.
The reveal at Frankfurt was the first time the concept took the full-scale body rather than design rendering.
Chief designer Anscheidt described the car as a Bugatti DNA reaching a new stage of evolution.
He, however, admitted that the concept is an exaggerated design that would not be represented entirely in the finished Chiron. It also features a race-spec body fit for the track.
There are rumors that a Vision Gran Turismo model will race against a Ford GT at the Le Mans 24 Hours in June 2016.
But for the moment the Bugatti model is just a design exercise that can only be downloaded on a Play Station Gran Turismo 6 game.
When are we likely to see the new Chiron? The earliest opportunity would come in the Geneva Motor Show in March 2016.
