ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s information minister Attaullah Tarar and the United Arab Emirates envoy, Hamad Obaid Al Zaabi, met on Wednesday to discuss enhancing bilateral relations and increasing the quantum of trade between the two countries.
The UAE is among Pakistan’s largest trading partners, reflecting strong bilateral relations anchored in shared cultural and economic interests. It has also provided substantial financial and economic support to Pakistan, including investments and aid packages, to help stabilize its economy.
The partnership between the two countries encompasses various sectors, such as investment and infrastructure development, reflecting a robust and mutually beneficial relationship.
The Pakistani minister informed the UAE envoy about the government’s recent economic initiatives and mentioned that tax reforms were being introduced and work was being done for digitalization of the national economy.
“In line with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s vision, we want to further strengthen trade and business relations [with the UAE],” he told Al Zaabi, according to an official statement issued by his ministry after the meeting. “There is a need to develop a joint roadmap for economic improvement.”
The UAE ambassador said both countries believed in enhancing bilateral relations, adding that his country had always stood with Pakistan in difficult times and would continue to supports its economic development.
Al Zaabi also met Pakistan’s commerce minister Jam Kamal a day earlier and agreed with the need to further bolster bilateral ties on the commercial front.
He highlighted the UAE’s desire to see Pakistan thrive in all areas of the economy.
The Pakistani commerce minister reiterated the vast opportunities for collaboration between the two countries, particularly in fostering people-to-people business relationships.
They both agreed to explore new avenues to enhance bilateral trade and cooperation in different areas.
