ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's permanent representative to the United Nations said on Saturday that the UN Undersecretary-General for Counterterrorism Vladimir Voronkov is going to study a dossier in which Islamabad accuses India of stoking militant attacks in Pakistan.
Islamabad has long claimed that India sponsors militant groups in Pakistan — claims India has always denied.
"I held meeting with Mr. Vladimir Voronkov, @UN Under-Secretary-General for counter-terrorism, on 3 December & transmitted to him the dossier regarding Indian involvement in terrorist activities against Pakistan," Ambassador Munir Akram said in a Twitter post, adding that Vronkov "promised to study the dossier" and "called upon India and Pakistan to reduce tensions."
The dossier was first presented by Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and military spokesman Maj. Gen. Babar Iftikhar during a joint conference in Islamabad on Nov. 14 and contained what they called "irrefutable evidence of India’s financial and material sponsorship of multiple terrorist organizations, including UN-designated terrorist groups."
Earlier, the dossier was handed over to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The dossier move comes ahead of India joining the 15-member UN Security Council for a two-year term starting Jan. 1, 2021.
