The step-by-step guide to Hajj

  • The Saudi Ministry of Health urged pilgrims to regularly use umbrellas as a preventive measure against heat exhaustion

MAKKAH: Saudi Arabia mobilizes vast healthcare, transport, and multilingual services as pilgrims perform Hajj rituals. Here is a look at the Hajj timetable for pilgrims over the next few days at the holy site.

1-MINA

8th of Dul Hijjah - Pilgrims arrive at the tent city of Mina, roughly 8 km away from the Grand Mosque in Makkah. They spend the day and night in Mina in prayers and supplication.

2-ARAFAT

9th of Dul Hijjah - Pilgrims make their way to Arafat, which is roughly 14 km away from Mina. They stay in the desert plains of Arafat, praying and repenting, until after sunset on the same day.

3-MUZDALIFAH

9th of Dul Hijjah - Pilgrims make their way to Muzdalifah, a valley between Mina and Mount Arafat. They spend the night, and gather small pebbles, to be used in ‘Stoning of the Devil,’ in the Jamarat in Mina.

4-MINA

10th of Dul Hijjah - After dawn prayers, pilgrims leave Muzdalifah and proceed to Mina. They perform first stoning of Jamarat Al-Aqaba.

5-GRAND MOSQUE

10th, 12th of Dul Hijjah - Pilgrims return to Makkah and head to the Grand Mosque. They perform Tawaf Al-Ifadah (circumambulation of the Kaaba) and Sa’i between Safa and Marwah.

6-MINA

11th ,12th, 13th of Dul Hijjah - Pilgrims stone all three Jamarat pillars (Al-Ula, Al-Wusta, and Al-Aqaba) over three days. They use the previously collected pebbles to stone the three pillars representing the devil.

7-MAKKAH

Pilgrims head to Makkah and perform Tawaf Al-Wida (farewell circumambulation of the Kaaba). The pilgrimage culminates and pilgrims leave Makkah.
