ISLAMABAD: Pakistan's climate change minister Sherry Rehman met Saudi Arabia's climate envoy Adel bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos, the Saudi foreign ministry said on Saturday, adding the two figures discussed international efforts against climate change.
Rehman was in Davos this week where she spoke about development finance to bridge financing gaps and highlighted Pakistan's initiatives aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change.
In her meeting with the Saudi climate envoy, the Pakistani climate change minister discussed ways to tackle the adverse impacts of climate change.
"They reviewed the relations between the two brotherly countries, and the international efforts exerted to limit the phenomenon of climate change, in addition to discussing the most important topics on the agenda of the @Davos 2023 Forum," the Saudi foreign ministry wrote on Twitter.
Pakistan is eighth on NGO Germanwatch's Global Climate Risk Index, a list of countries deemed most vulnerable to extreme weather caused by climate change, despite contributing less than 1 percent to global carbon emissions.
Devastating floods, blamed on climate change, last year killed more than 1,700 Pakistanis, affected another 33 million and caused the country over $30 billion in economic losses.
Saudi Arabia was one of the first few countries to come to the aid of Pakistan after the climate catastrophe and generously donated relief goods for flood-affected Pakistanis.
