ISLAMABAD: A hapless Pakistan proved to be no match for a clinical English side on Sunday as the visitors defeated the hosts by 67 runs to win the series 4-3 in Lahore.
Pakistan's opening order failed to perform, with skipper Babar Azam and Muhammad Rizwan departing for 4 and 1 respectively within the space of a few deliveries.
Shan Masood and Iftikhar Ahmed tried to build a partnership before the latter returned to the pavilion, scoring 19 off 16. Khushdil Shah hit a few sixes and boundaries but he too failed to impress for long, scoring 27 off 25 balls before Adil Rashid dismissed him.
Masood made 56 off 43 balls before Rashid took a spectacular catch to dismiss him.
Earlier, England's strong middle-order once again rose to the occasion to hand Pakistan a mammoth 210-run target.
England began the innings in a similar aggressive fashion, with Phil Salt and Alex Hales hitting Pakistani bowlers earlier on for boundaries. However, a fast-paced delivery by Mohammad Hasnain trapped Hales lbw, getting Pakistan their first wicket at 39.
In came Dawid Malan, who immediately got into the groove and batted impressively to ensure the game slipped away from Pakistan. Another wicket fell in the same over when Salt needlessly tried to attempt a run but a Shadab Khan throw was too good for him.
However, Malan and Ben Duckett steadily built up a partnership. Duckett fell to a brilliant run-out by Muhammad Rizwan, who was just too quick for the left-handed batter. In came in Harry Brook and from then on, England were just too good and just too aggressive for Pakistan.
Malan and Brook (both dropped by Muhammad Wasim and Azam) scored 78 and 46 respectively. England finished at 209/3 from their 20 overs.
